Community Environmental Council

The Community Environmental Council’s mission is to identify, advocate, raise awareness, and develop effective programs to solve the most pressing environmental issues that affect the Santa Barbara region.

With the support of The Orfalea Foundation, CEC’s efforts are designed to build a community-based movement to reduce reliance on fossil fuels in one generation — Fossil Free by ’33.  Through the Rethink the Drink program, CEC and The Orfalea Foundation have distributed stainless steel water canteens and installed water refill stations at local schools providing students and staff with access to cold, filtered water.  The program’s reach has extended to after-school facilities and athletic programs as part of this year's focus on bottled water usage among student athletes.  Currently CEC is working with Montecito Union, Santa Barbara Junior High, Santa Barbara High School, Westmont College, Adams, Monroe, Franklin, and Harding Elementary Schools, as well as the Santa Barbara Boys & Girls Club.
